if empathy is more automatic or prevelent, why is it so often ignored or turned off by the heads of so many?
is it merely misplaced or misfiring? or is it a more conscious choice? certain stories and beliefs allow it to be dialed up and down. would what sets us apart from animals be our ability to be selective with it?

also, as I recall ferd, when you appear in your videos your face is obscured or blocked. usually you'd think that seeing such a direct human characteristic would make empathy easier or more likely.
but it does not seem diminished by your masks. instead its heightened. reminds me of narrative devices employed by certain cartoonists, like hergé, making his character almost an empty set of shoes to hop into while walking through an extremely specific, detailed world.
